The countdown begins in earnest as parents and teachers and students figure out what wild and crazy things to accomplish before they enter the doors of their school. I asked one 8 yr old Player and she declared that she would climb 5 trees and have a picnic before she returned. I asked my advanced teen Players and one 15 yr old said he’d try to ” get up a little earlier each day and try to turn off the TV a little earlier each night”…sounded quite mature indeed. Another teen said that they would like to “read one of the English novels before classes start”….and I was bowled over…literally almost fell off my chair. I chalked up such practical and noteworthy comments as another indication of how smart and savvy my YSP Players are…and how practical! Usually, actors and those interested in Improvisation and Comedy are not thought to be logical or practical thinkers- when in fact, actors are some of the brightest and intellectual beings on the planet!
